Pokerheaven.com – Case Study 1

www.pokerheaven.com – This hand took place in my recent live tournament, and was a nasty bad beat, but it wound up being the catalyst for an amzing comeback, ending in victory for me some two or three hours later.
Having been dealt (Kc,Ks) in the small blind, I was delighted to see the shortest stack at the table with 600 chips, move all in, being flat called by the two players on my right. Naturally, I wanted to play heads up against the short stack, or maybe have only one other caller from the opponents on my right. I moved all in for 5,400 total, and was instantly called by one of the other two players with chips. This quick call left me fearing (A,A) and I was a bit confused, but relatively happy, to see him turn over (8h,9h). As the flop and turn brought no real help to my opponent, I just had time to think "any card but a Six on the river, and I’ll have a lovely chipstack".
The river brought a crushing (6s) to make a straight for the (8h,9h) and after a quick count, I was left with a paltry 700 chips in front of me. Quite what our player with (8h,9h) was thinking later became apparent when he explained that "well any two cards can win". He wasn’t a particularly experienced player, and he was playing crazy, lucky poker, which is a dangerous combination.
The correct move was almost certainly for him to fold, but although I didn’t realise it at the time, the most incredible roller coaster ride of a tournament for me, had only just begun. pokerheaven.com
