The sight of professional pkr.com poker players sitting with headphones on whilst they played was not uncommon several years ago with Phil Hellmuth being one of the most notable players to wear them.

I can understand how some players enjoy listening to music whilst they play, as music can both energise a player or sooth frustrations, depending on the type of music. Sometimes when the stresses and strains of playing poker get too much, music can provide an effective way of calming or refocusing a pkr.com players mind. I personally used to listen to music before I went to my local tournament to leave me feeling relaxed and calm by the time I got there.
So there is certainly a case to be made for music being a fair and legitimate help to players, both before and during a www.pkr.com game. I for one, feel it provides a benefit to poker and it’s players. But despite this we must consider the obvious side effects of players listening to music whilst a serious game of poker is being played. Headphones do not have to be all that loud for neighbouring players to hear the music too, and they may find this distracting to their play.
On the grounds of this alone you can see why some people feel it has no place in poker, but also it may distract the listener themselves from exactly what is going on. If a player makes a verbal declaration in a betting round, the player may not hear them and the game is stalled as they are informed that the opponent has raised.
Currently at the WSOP headphones are allowed, but only up to the money paying places. At this point the headphones must come off as the players reach the serious end of the tournament. I feel that when you take the good and bad points of music into account, this is probably a reasonable compromise and the fairest way forward for all concerned, in my opinion. www.pkr.com
