Player promotions at Blue Square Poker

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Friday May 29th, 2009

The first promotional offer to mention at Blue Square Poker is their first time deposit bonus. This should help boost bankrolls considerably, with a 100% bonus up to an amount of $500 as well as entry to a $1,000 freeroll. Also found at Blue Square, is a VIP system which offers cash bonuses, seats to major tournaments, as well as entry to high value freerolls. With this years WSOP almost upon us, Blue Square are offering the chance for players to win their way to a seat at the main event.

It is not just the large scale events that can be found here, there are a number of freerolls, with some set aside for beginners, as well as Sit and Go giveaways, which is a novel idea. Another interesting promotion at Blue Square is the poker face promotion. Players who send in the best photographs of their faces whilst playing poker, will receive a prize.

There are four different varieties of Sit and Go to make up the set of jackpot Sit and Go’s at Blue Square, with the chance of a huge jackpot for a player who can win 6 in a row.

Promotions are updated quite reularly at Blue square and are enough to keep many players happy. having said that, I wouldn’t rate them as the best promotions I have seen online. Many of them are based around satellites to large tournaments which is good for the players with big ambitions, but something a little more diverse for the recreational players would be good to see.

The first Poker Heaven promotional offer which I feel deserves a mention here, is the excellent first time deposit bonus. This is above the usual competitive offers and stands at 200%. You must earn the required amount of FPP’s to trigger the payments, but you have an above average 60 days to do so.

There are several other promotional offers at Poker Heaven which really stand out. There is a refer a friend bonus in place, which pays 50 Euros to you for each friend referred. Some sites offer a small payment to the player being referred too, but overall, this is a good offer. Jackpot Sit and Go tournaments are offered here too, with a possible 10,000 Euro windfall if a player manages to win 6 in a row. 200 Euros can be won by taking either first or second place in 6 consecutive games too.

There is a VIP loyalty store at Poker Heaven, which gives players the chance to spend their hard earned points on merchandise, and there are lots of good value guaranteeds running every day too.
Sony PSP’s are being given away as tournament prizes every day throughout May. Also during this month there is a special offer of quality items being available to any player who can hit a target number of points during the month.

As you can see, there are many innovative offers available at Poker Heaven currently, further details of which can be found on their homepage.

5 reasons to play at PKR.com

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday May 25th, 2009

PKR is certainly my favourite site online, and there are several reasons for this. Firstly, I enjoy the community spirit on the forums, all players seem friendly and helpful, and there is a forum league running too.

Play online poker at PKR.com now – click here.

There is an online store at PKR too which offers some great value merchandise. Many sites will offer the chance to use FPP’s to purchase poker merchandise from an online store, but I particularly like the array of equipment on offer at PKR.

The third point to be made is probably the one which immediately made PKR stand out from other poker rooms in my opinion. Visually, the site is stunning, with 3D characters which are completely yours to customize as you please.

You can make these characters talk, move, and gesticulate whilst playing at the tables, and you can also see when other players check their hole cards. This creates a much more enjoyable experience of playing in my opinion, but it is not the only area in which PKR excels.

Transaction security and speed I have always found to be very good too, and support is of a good standard.
It used to be the case that PKR’s weakness was a lack of options in game choice, as they only offered Omaha high, and Texas Holdem. Recently, Omaha hi/lo has been added which shows that this is a poker room that understands the few areas where it needs to improve, and strives to do so.

Pkr.com – Showing Fear

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday Mar 30th, 2009

www.pkr.com – Fear of having the losing hand is never something you want to signal to your opponents in poker. For some, sunglasses are worn to disguise any tells their eyes may give, but for me, the more of my face an opponent can see, the better.
I do not pay much attention to physical tells but if I notice someone looking at me to pick on a tell, I will try and very carefully give off the opposite signals.

Signals given off in betting patterns usually display fear or lack of it, far more clearly. If someone bets the flop heavily then checks the turn, it will often mean they have taken a shot at stealing the pot and ae now worried that they are beaten.
I think that for the most part, poker is a game where you should not be fearful of losing. If you think the correct choice is to commit your chips to hand and you go in front, of course you might still lose, but you have done all you can. In that case you might regret putting your chips in the moment you chose to, but would you really regret the decision if the deck was reshuffled then the hand replayed? The fact is that all you can do is put your chips in the middle when you think you are a favourite to have the winning hand by the end. Preferably you want to be a bigger favourite than 55% but in shorter stacked scenarios you should take whatever advatage you can get.

Do not be fearful of trusting your instincts, but of course try to protect your chips when you hav a strong stack too, because this is one scenario you can decide when to fight your battles. Pkr.com

Pokerheaven.com – Case Study 1

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Thursday Mar 12th, 2009

www.pokerheaven.com – This hand took place in my recent live tournament, and was a nasty bad beat, but it wound up being the catalyst for an amzing comeback, ending in victory for me some two or three hours later.

PLAY NOW

Having been dealt (Kc,Ks) in the small blind, I was delighted to see the shortest stack at the table with 600 chips, move all in, being flat called by the two players on my right. Naturally, I wanted to play heads up against the short stack, or maybe have only one other caller from the opponents on my right. I moved all in for 5,400 total, and was instantly called by one of the other two players with chips. This quick call left me fearing (A,A) and I was a bit confused, but relatively happy, to see him turn over (8h,9h). As the flop and turn brought no real help to my opponent, I just had time to think "any card but a Six on the river, and I’ll have a lovely chipstack".

The river brought a crushing (6s) to make a straight for the (8h,9h) and after a quick count, I was left with a paltry 700 chips in front of me. Quite what our player with (8h,9h) was thinking later became apparent when he explained that "well any two cards can win". He wasn’t a particularly experienced player, and he was playing crazy, lucky poker, which is a dangerous combination.
The correct move was almost certainly for him to fold, but although I didn’t realise it at the time, the most incredible roller coaster ride of a tournament for me, had only just begun. pokerheaven.com

Coral Pocker – Giving Luck its Chance

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Thursday Mar 5th, 2009

www.coralpocker.com – When it comes to seeing a flop come down after we’ve folded a hand, we all know the feeling of seeing our folded hand hit perfectly. This will happen some of the time, but it certainly isn’t a reason to start playing hands that simply aren’t logical to play.

PLAY NOW

Despite this, it does serve as a reminder that sometimes, however worn down our chipstack is beginning to look, all it takes is a couple of all ins, with a little bit of luck, to be right back in the game.
That is of course one of the great things about the game, that you are never out of a tournament until that last chip is in the pot, and that final card arrives and chooses not to save you.

It is for this reason, that I always like to open up and play shove or fold poker when my stack gets very low. There is always a point in my mind where I refuse to let myself get any lower on chips regardles of the cards I am being dealt. The simple reason for this is that the lower on chips you get, the more double throughs you will need to be back around the average chips for the tournament. In my mind, there is a tipping point, where the risks I will have to take to fight back to a reasonable chipstack get too much. I feel there is less risk in the present moment, if I shove with a hand like (7,8) or (8,9) if you cannot find a strong hand. The reason I choose these cards is that you are very likely to have two live cards, and this means, you are never a huge underdog going to the flop. if you look at making this move with hands such as (A,5) or (K,10), you greatly increase your chance of being called by a hand that has you dominated.

So as far as my views are concerned, never hang on to your small stack waiting on that big hand for too long. Sometimes, you just might find you are better off shoving the chips in and giving luck a chance, or fate a choice, as the case may be. Coralpocker.com

Pkr.com – My Recent Tournaments

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Feb 24th, 2009

www.pkr.com – In terms of live tournaments, I have struggled to make final tables recently, partly perhaps, due to the fact that I show too much aggression in my play. Having given it some consideration, I have decided to tighten up my play when I next play a live game in a couple of days time, and with any luck this will prove a catalyst for better results.

PLAY NOW

In the last live game I played, I got a little unlucky when I picked up an open ended straight draw on the turn. I felt compelled to call a bet made by my opponent because there was a fair amount in the pot, and the bet was not overly large. I soon found out why the bet was small on the turn, when I went on to hit my straight on the river. I called a large bet on the river, only for my opponent to show that they had a full house already.

Despite the limited success on the live tournament front, I have found better results online which is strange, as I prefer live play generally speaking. I have had several final tables in smaller MTT tournaments, mostly in Omaha in fact. This goes to show that sometimes a change of game type can help you in poker if you feel your results are stagnating a little.
I shall perhaps play a few more online tournaments this week, sticking to the Omaha theme, and with any luck, my weekly live game will be better than my previous encounters too.  www.pkr.com

Bluesquarepoker.co.uk – How to Deal with Consistently Lucky Players

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday Feb 16th, 2009

Blue Square Poker – This is a bigger problem I feel, when you have a relatively unskilled player hitting cards very well. In many ways this is far more dangerous than a very skilled player hitting well, because the way these players play their strong cards can differ greatly, with the less skilled players being more complex to read.

PLAY NOW

With these less skilled players, you can find them doing the most unexpected of things. This is where skilled players will usually win chips from them, but if your opponent keeps hitting cards, perhaps it is best to avoid confrontation where at all possible. If you feel that you must get involved in a big pot with this type of player, the reason you will feel this way is down to the strength of your own cards.

You cannot be too fearful of the worst happening if your cards are strong, and can only play them to the best of your ability, raising to protect yourself, and picking up pots early in the hand.

Whilst you can often say that a player has been catching cards when they need to in previous hands, luck is fickle, and that will not be the case in each and every hand until the end of a tournament. So play your cards strongly, be trusting of your reads, and try and exploit any clear mistakes in your opponents play. In this way you should hopefully be able to at least keep your chip level afloat until you find some more luck yourself. www.bluesquarepoker.co.uk
